*You see a human man pacing back and forth in front of a wagon with a bix ax in his hand. He seems to be talking to himself. You hear him say* I think that I shall never be, a woodcuttEL-DB.comer better than my mommy... No... That sounds wrong. *As you approach, you accidentally step on a dry branch. The sudden crack causes him to spin and look in your direction.* Hey there.

Who are you?
Henk's the name and woodcuttin's the game...no, that don't sound good neither. Woodcuttin's dangerous and should never be considered a game. That would be irresponsible, but the name/game rhyme was good...I wonder if there's another way I could use that....hmmmm....

Woodcutting?
Oh sure, yeah. Not just me neither. My ma and pa and my brother Plenk are woodcutters and Nana and Pops used to be woodcutters too. In wood cutting circles, we're famous.

What are you doing?
You mean with the words? Ma's birthday is comin' up and she always likes gifts we've made ourselves.

Parents
They've gone into town to make sure our permits are in order so we can clear out the rest of these dead trees and branches. We should make quite a hefty sum after we sell all this here wood.

Plenk
Plenk thinks he's found the love of his life in a girl called Peg. He's gone off a courtin' her, I don't know when he'll be back. If you ask me, I think she's about as stiff as a board. Hmmmm... That would make her a wooden Peg. Hah! I'll have to remember that.

Dangerous
Well, around me it can be. You see, when I get into the rhythm of the ax swings, sometimes words like what you heard me doin' just go 'round and 'round in my head and I tend not to be aware of anyone else near me. Poor Plenk has gotten more than one knock on the head gettin' too close to me when I'm in that state.

You're writing her a poem?
Hey! You watch your mouth! Do you see any peEL-DB.comns and paper here? I ain't writin' nothin'!

Sorry
Readin' and writin', why that there's woman's work and some day, when I find someone to court, ma will make sure she can do all that for me.

Why are they dead?
Well, some times, especially near Bethel there, the desert seems to grow and take over more territory. These trees just happened to be growin' in the wrong place at the wrong time. But, that don't mean someone like us can't take advantage of the situation and certainly no one livin' 'round here's gonna mind.

More
But, on the other hand, maybe it has to do with what's goin' on over there at that magic school. That place just seems to suck the water right out of the air. Gives me the creeps, it does. It ain't normal.

Permit?
A permit is needed to cut the trees in and around PV. They worry that if trees are cut the desert from Bethel will engulf the whole city. In fact, if we want to cut a living tree, we must plant two others. I don't know if they really care about the trees, or they just want to grab our money. Probably both..

Magic School
It's a little north west of here. I don't know much about it, but I know that it's the school of water. Osreng is the grandmaster there. Only met him once when he came to take a look at our dead trees problem. He said it's not because of the school, but I don't trust wizzards. And I am sure he wouldn't admit it even if it was his fault.

So long
Take care, now, and don't be sneakin' up on me whilst I'm swingin' an ax.
