How to Use Storage, and Trade With Players, Bots, and NPCs
Introduction
The ability to trade and stockpile items is necessary to play EL. This introduction will tell you how to work with your storage, as well as how to do trades with other players, bots, and NPCs.
Your Inventory

Your inventory is items your character carries around. How much you can carry is limited by your "emu", which is the total amount of weight you can carry.
Every item has its own "weight". Items that weigh more take up more emu.
Some items in your inventory, including worn items, may drop as well when you die. For this reason, it's best to keep unneeded items in storage.
Dropping Items
If you click on an inventory item, and then click on the ground, you will drop that item.
How Much?
You can change how many of an item you wish to trade/drop/etc. The bottom of your inventory has a row of numbers. Select one of these to change the number of items you are dropping as was just mentioned, or trading, or putting in storage.
These numbers will also affect how many items you pull out of storage while at storage as well.
These numbers can be changed as well! Right-click a number and it will turn red. Keeping the cursor over the number, use backspace to delete the number and enter a new one, up to 99,999. Press Enter and the number will be saved.
Carrying More
Your EMU limits how much you can carry. You can gain more EMU to carry more by increasing your Physique and/or Coordination attributes. With every increase of 2 of either of those, your EMU will increase by 20. The maximum normal EMU is 1040.
Wearing Stuff
To equip an item, simply click it in your inventory, move it to the equipment squares on the right of the inventory, and click it again to drop it. You can also double-click a wearable item and it'll go into the equipment. To remove items, do the opposite.
Your Storage

In storage, there's no EMU to be concerned about. You can store essentially as much as you want of any item. However, you are limited to 300 different items. For general gameplay, this is enough.
To access your storage, go to a storage NPC on maps that have one. You are likely already familiar with the "Newbie Storage" that is on Isla Prima, but it's only accessible to new players and you'll have to go elsewhere once you reach Overall level 25.
When you open storage, you'll also have your inventory open. Select the number at the bottom of your inventory of how many of an item you want, then select the item in storage you wish to move to your inventory. Or the item in inventory to move to storage.
Mass Storage Dump
On the right of your inventory is a button labeled "Sto All". If you click (or double-click depending on your settings) that button while storage is open, everything in your inventory will be placed into storage, except any items you're wearing.

Your own exceptions: If you have items you don't want to "Sto All", you can choose to have the top, bottom or both rows of your inventory to not go to storage with that button. Simply Right-click the Sto All button, and select the rows you want to stay in your inventory.
NPC Trading

NPCs have blue names over their heads and are part of the game. As you can't send them private messages, you can only buy and sell from them using their dialog boxes.
An NPC that is buying or selling items will give you options to buy or sell. The image shows how that appears in the text window.
Buying: Select "Buy" in the dialog box, select the item to buy, and the amount. You must have gold coins to buy the items in your inventory, and as well have enough EMU to carry what you are purchasing.
Selling: Carry whatever you are selling in your inventory to the NPC. Select "Sell" in its dialog box. If you have anything that particular NPC buys, the name of the item(s) you have will be the next option. Select the item to be sold, then how many.
If an NPC is not offering to buy an item in your inventory, it's because that NPC doesn't buy the item. Look the item up here on this site, and the item's page will show any NPCs that buy it, if any do.
Guild NPCs
There are 6 special NPCs that are paid for by guilds to sell their wares on. Two are in White Stone City, and the other 4 are next to the docks in Idaloran. Unlike normal game NPCs, these can sell whatever items the guild wishes to sell on them. You'll generally have to actually go to the NPC to see what they sell. They do not buy anything.
Player Trading

To trade with a player, you need to be within a couple steps of each other. Each player must click the other using the "trade" cursor. When both have done this, a small window will open for trading.
Place the items or gold coins into the trade window the same way you'd move them between storage and inventory. Once the other player has done their part, both players will need to click "Okay" TWICE in order for the trade to be successful. Remember when trading between inventorys that players must have the EMU necessary to carry the items they are receiving or the trade will fail.
Storage Trading
Most trades are done at storage, as you can directly trade from your storage instead of inventory. This allows you to trade large amounts of items with no EMU worries. When you trade at storage, simply move the items from the storage window to the trade window. Otherwise the trade is the same as was just described.

Cinderella placed gold coins in the trade window from inventory, so those will go into SisterSin's inventory.)
Bot Trading
Bots have purple names over their heads. They are essentially players, but are run by a script instead of a person. They are owned by players, and can buy or sell anything that the owner of the bot desires.
You trade with a bot similarly to with a player, by clicking the bot with the "trade" cursor.
What do they Buy/Sell?
From anywhere, you can send the bot a private message asking what they buy or sell. /botname buy or /botname sell will get them to send you lists.
Many bots are hosted on one service, and you can find each bot's buy/sell list there if it's hosted there: bots.el-services.net.
How to Sell
With the trade window open, place the items to be sold into it from your inventory. Make sure the bot in question is actually buying the item you are trying to sell! The bot will place the appropriate gc in the trade window, then you twice click "Okay" to finish the trade.

How to Buy
You'll have to tell the bot what you want to buy via private message. /botname buy amount itemname replacing "amount" with the number of the item you want, and itemname with the name of the item to buy.
The bot will place the item in the trade window, assuming it is selling that item. You then place the correct amount of gold coins in the trade window, and finish the transaction. It will fail if you do not have the EMU to carry the items.
If you place too many gold coins in the window, the bot will put coins in its side to bring it down to the correct amount.

Bot Issues
Not all bots are regularly maintained. You may have some problems:
- The bot won't buy an item because it does not have the EMU or slots to carry it - Bots can have larger EMU than players but can still become full. And as well they're limited to 36 inventory slots just like players.
- The transaction failed because the bot doesn't have correct change - If you put too many coins in the trade window and the bot doesn't have coins to give change, it will tell you this and fail. Try again, but use only the correct amount of coins.
Because bots are run by the player who owns them, and not everyone plays as often as others, you cannot expect bots to be able to handle trades you want to do at all times. All you can do is wait until the bot issue is resolved by the owner, or find a different bot or npc to buy/sell with.
